Why Christmas Workshop

The Why Christmas Workshop

Class by class children from Milford Primary School joined the team from Valley CIDS (Christians in Derbyshire Schools) to take part in The Why Christmas Workshop - a hands on explanation of why we celebrate Christmas.

The event, which took place in the church building just across the road from the school, was set up so children could enjoy a strong visual impact through visiting various stations which told the story of two beginnings, starting with:

The Creation Story. God created the heavens and the earth, animals, plants seeds and trees and how it was good.

The next station was about Our Broken World.  Because Adam and Eve ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, we decided to go our own way, didn't follow the maker's instructions, became separated from God and bad things started to happen.

After hearing the story of the first beginning and how we messed things up, the workshop went on to explore a new beginning, when God gave us another chance and this is the reason for Christmas.

God Loved the World so much he decided to send his Son, Jesus, to repair our broken world.

Jesus was born to Mary (the Christmas story)

Jesus' Life - The miracles he performed:  water into wine; feeding the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish and Peter walking on the water.

Christmas starts with the birth of a baby and the story ends with Easter where Jesus paid the price for everything we have done and will do wrong, opening the way for us to come back to God.

It is a beautifully illustrated workshop and made interactive so that children throughout the primary range can enjoy and understand the event.
